Camino de la Frontera Rosé Blend 2018

Second time with this bottling and an equally stellar experience. This producer works magic with her rosados. Flat out some of the best I’ve ever had. Deep ruby red, with strawberry fruit and a crushed candy nose. Mouth is tart, salty, taffy textured, leesy, with an umami wave. All the savory components integrate seemlessly with the fruit. Super length. What a great wine. — 5 years ago

Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Curious, so I decided to open up one of these while waiting for someone to help me consume the other half.... This wine is youthful, and for that reason is a bit out of balance from the previous wine I remembered and scored quite a bit higher than this one. This wine is a 93 right now, with potential for a 96-97 IMO. The fruit in front is massive. Black cherry, black licorice, but as @Shay A was mentioning there is a red fruity kind of touch to this one and I completely agree. The middle is a little bit muted vs. the previous vintage. The finish is quite peppery, toasted oak. Tons of potential on this full bodied Moon Mountain monster. Hold for the next 10 years. — 7 years ago

So Mark blinded me on this, and my first guess was a Cali Cab Franc (I got quite a bit of black pepper on the finish and after another 30mins or so, green bell pepper showed up...not vegetal or detracting, just a unique characteristic that made this intriguing). My second guess was a Coombsville Cab (it was inky and filled with fresh squeezed tart black and red fruit). My Coombsville guess was more of a cool climate Cab gueas, which is correct for Moon Mountain. The big mountain tannins are here and almost fine grained...in another 2-3yrs, they will be. Licorice and a sweetened red fruit note on the finish. Really want to try one of these with 5-7yrs of age. This will easily be 95+ in a couple years.

Family Tree El Camino Real Vineyard GSM 2014

This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.

The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.

On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.

The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
