Cal cab tasting. Deep dark purple with some bricking in the rims. Notes of dark red fruit, currant, cocoa and mocha, some roses. Thin in the mouth, even with decanter time. Great nose but the structure and mouthfeel is a bit lacking. — 6 years ago

@Steve Anderson This is a cool bottle, enjoyed in my pre-delectable days. But I must say this particular pic of those three white wines would have been a very fun lineup alone, without all the other badass corks that were pulled during your evening.

@Severn Goodwin - yes, the line up of whites (also including an Aubert Lauren) probably didn’t get the attention they deserved. I’m fortunate to be part of a generous (and thoughtful) wine group and they went above and beyond in the quality and quantity of wines presented for our holiday dinner. A wonderful evening, but some excellent wines got lost in a sea of bottles. We actually decided not to open a few of the whites, including Guigal La Doriane, knowing that we already had too many bottles open.

@Steve Anderson Good decision to withhold. Palate and experience gets compromised with too many bottles, it gets tough for stellar bottles to stand in a crowd some days. Also, a generous wine group is really the best kind. 😉

Tasted blind. Dark reddish purple color, opaque. Looks and smells rich. Notes of black berry fruit, tobacco, some cassis and a little anise. Chewy in the mouth. Powerful fruit and structure - this is still young. Easy to guess as a young Cal Cab, althought it wasn't that young. — 7 years ago

Aromas of lemon citrus with herb, stone & tropical fruits. Palate, peach, Granny Smith apple & ripe melon flavors with lively citrus zest wrapped in lbalanced acidity. How do you say no to a wine dedicated to Cal Ripken? Not only does this do him justice, this is flat out an amazing Cabernet. Is it worth the $825 with the signed baseball? I'll leave that up to you. Regardless, the toasted oak and dark tannic fruits with this make this an age worthy stash. — 9 years ago
