A burly, intense wine, better on the second day, developing some notes of canned lychee or peach in syrup to go with the heavy Diesel/petrol notes dominating both nose and palate. Finish sort of drops right off, leaving a plastic/curiously blank note. Interesting but not perfect. — 10 years ago
Rad wine. Big and burly, but it wears it really well. Concentrated, fresh, and I love how it starts out with ripe fruit and finishes quite savory. — 10 years ago
Burly and robust with good earth notes — 11 years ago
2008. Burly and spicy tonight, deep in the fruit. — 11 years ago
So perfumed and amazing on the nose. Just wanted to keep smelling this wine. The palate still showed burly and young with a lot if tannic structure, even after being opened for a couple hours. Perfect example of a '95 that is just showing itself. — 11 years ago
Awesome burly spice bomb Bordeaux — 13 years ago
Still very burly and tannic. Quite minerally. Took a couple hours to reveal any hint of fruit. In the end a solid value Bordeaux that needs more time. — 9 years ago
Not much on the nose, but an explosion of sweet oak, honeyed peaches, smoke, and grass on the palate. Big and burly for this style, but very satisfying. — 10 years ago
Good Evening fellow wine lovers. Tonight we are drinking one my very favorite wines, 2010 Burly Cabrenet Sauvignon. WOW. Before we begin, I want to thank Bernice and Hank McCrorie for bringing us their amazing wines. Bernice actually talks to me via email and on the phone when I call them. No other wine maker has ever done this. She's from Sonoma County and he's from Asheville North Carolina. This couple has made an amazing product. Please visit their website www.Burlywines.com The cork is perfect with almost no absorption ring. The color is opaque deep purple / black. The legs are long and slow. The bouquet is blackberry and raspberry aromas. The initial palate is so buttery smooth you won't believe it's this big! There are flavors of black current, blackberries, and fig. The new oak barrel aging gives it a hint of spice with a smooth finish that of a green apple. It is mildly dry leaving absolutely no aftertaste. All you can think of is MORE! Before you know it, your two glasses down and telling yourself to slow down. This is a perfect wine. It's a bit pricey but so worth the expense. I give it 98 points and a 10 on the delectable scale! But as much of this wine as you can. Also try the Chardonnay! You will change your mind about Chards if your a Pinot Grigio fan!

As one who LOVES Latakia pipe tobacco among his burly and as a boy I just loved those black licorice pipes that bit like browned flour, this is for me. Glorious! — 12 years ago
Very nice, smooth almost buttery. Not over powering — 9 years ago
I really enjoyed this, should be getting more love on here 500 cases total better then most of the 90+ rated Chardonnays on here, lovely oak and butter full bodied — 10 years ago
Big and burly with ripe tannins baked blue fruits, and graphite minerality. Drinking better on day 2. Delicious now, but still a baby. — 10 years ago
Juicy, firm. Still burly and young but pretty tasty. Needs meat #southafrica #detoren. — 10 years ago

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2006
Still a baby, this is all primary fruit with gorgeous floral violets, a sweet leather note and a subtle savoriness. The palate is intense and a little less complex than the nose. Burly and intense, with wonderful acidity and firmly grained tannin this will do well with 5+ more years of bottle refinement.
