Full disclosure: I freaking LOVE the wines from Coho. Every one, and have become acquaintances with Gary Lipp (a fellow Clevelander and long-suffering. Browns fan)- who has been a major force in bringing this delightful estate to life. I’m a huge fan, so there’s that. Expectations are extremely high for this ‘14 Stanley Ranch Pinot. I’ve had seven vintages of this beautifully-sourced Pinot- and from ‘14 I’m expecting great things. And those things are present ;).
I didn’t decant, just a bit of a breathe and she’s already opening and evolving. Yes there’s “bing cherry”- but that’s only at the foundation of the structure, which is rounding-out and expressing itself with a serious and embracing intellect on the palate. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more interesting conversation with a California Pinot. The mid to the finish is my favorite element of the entire experience. It’s smooth as Hopper’s Blue Velvet, and yet delightfully defined. — 6 years ago
After 10 years this is absolutely fabulous. Throw the French or English kings of cheese at it, and it will match them nobly — 7 years ago
Lovely rich and complex Coonawarra red blend ... my only regret?? Not buying more of it when I had the chance! — 8 years ago
Classic jammy fruit up front, with spice at the back that had held up well over time. Definite hints of tobacco and eucalyptus. Still has decent life left. — 9 years ago
Perfect for the Browns game and Brats. Smooth with tons of deep berry flavor — 10 years ago
Fruity, blueberry-flavored Shiraz with no harsh tannins or flavors. Very enjoyable for this type of wine and great with blue and strong cheese. — 5 years ago
Absolutely beautiful I drank lots of this when it was young and I am glad I saved some yo drink now. — 5 years ago
Another great vintage of a terrific wine! The 2009 has aromas and flavors of blueberry, plums, cedar, cola, vanilla, black pepper and earth. Hint of menthol. Very complex. Smooth tannins and well balanced. Both varietals are integrated beautifully! Great with a steak! Solid QPR! Revisited in February 2020. Still excellent, but probably beginning to pass it’s peak. — 6 years ago
Got this for $3.99 at the 99 cent store. It tastes like a $25 bottle of wine. SCORE. — 8 years ago
2016 Melba Lillian Chardonnay. Light yet delicious. Compliment to Caesar salad. — 8 years ago
2013 Tinto Pesquera Crianza. Moderate acidity, good notes of American Oak, with toasty spices, some black fruits, anise and leather. Given time to open (~40 min) really softened and began to show more black fruits. Served with the Bowery Steak and Veal Chop, sides of creamed spinach, mushroom fricassee, Brussels sprouts and hash browns. 14% ABV (!). — 9 years ago
Delicious; balance spot on, plenty of interest and great to drink. Apparently the Browns have been growing Graciano in King Valley since the 1920s, and I gather the Tempranillo vines are several decades old, too. Anyway, this has bags of fruit - strawberry, blueberry and blackberry - on the nose, which also brings in dusty chocolate, earth and smokiness. Silky and super fresh on the palate, which is quite perfectly even and lingering. Yes. — 10 years ago
Oldest in the Penfolds portfolio, Wine includes fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Adelaide and Wrattonbully vineyards. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits with earthy spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, plum and dried cherry flavors with cacao, espresso and black pepper. Vivid acidity, rich ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and spice, nice! — 5 years ago
Nose of dusty earth, deep dark cherry, ripe blackberry, leather strop (for a razor), horse saddle, some black pepper and cinnamon. There’s a good beautiful deepness to it. There’s still good tannin presence and acidity all throughout the tongue. The palate has black cherry, almost Dr Pepper/Dr Browns black cherry soda without the sugary sweetness. It’s much better than it sounds. Earth comes through with the cinnamon. There’s life and I’m curious to see where this goes. Better on day 2. — 6 years ago
First timer with this appellation but really enjoyed. Great end of weekend wine! — 6 years ago
Holy Eucalyptus! Even awhile since I’ve had this wine and it is still great, very hearty / layered generous depth of flavor & aromas - varietally correct + huge minty menthol lift. Bold tannic grip - this needs the right partner — 8 years ago
Smooth red. Low acidity with a bit of spice. — 9 years ago
This wine opens with dusty bramble notes on the nose that transition to strong black cherry, minor tar, and background licorice flavors on the pallet. Cleared the classic tastes of Mexican fare quite well, but frankly is better on its own. A fine wine to sip the summer away with. — 9 years ago
Ripe cherry preserves, dr Browns black cherry on the nose.
Fat, fruit forward mouth with plenty of acidity to keep it interesting. Incredible QPR. Wish I had more ... — 10 years ago
Sipping Fine Wine

Will age for 10+ years! — 5 years ago
