Bright acidity, still a little green but wonderful. Would like to see how it evolves in a year. Visited the tasting room for Ellory’s bachelorette and had a lovely time. Beautiful space, knowledgeable staff and intimate setting with long live edge table for tasting and handmade wooden chandeliers from found branches 😍 dreamy — 8 years ago

Riserva Pora Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2004

90 min decant. Nose is relatively closed right now, tart red berries and asphalt dominate. Beautiful front palate - Strawberry jam, floral notes, plums, wild cherry, and some tar. Super grippy tannins as expected bring in hints of dried branches and warm spice. A touch of umami on the finish is what makes this great. Love to try this in a decade. — 8 years ago

Mas d'en Compte Blanco Priorat White Blend 2007

Concentrated as an arrowhead, orange marmalade, lime zest, honey, sunflower seeds, sage, licorice, spruce branches, medicine , asphalt. Super body, flabby acidity is the only one minus of that wine, but the texture of taste is excellent. long lasting juicy aftertaste! Awesome! Bravo! — 8 years ago

Château La Couspaude

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Garnet brownish in the glass with a brick rim. Underbrush, garrigue, herbs, grilled bread, dried violets, bramble berry, dry branches, tobacco leaf, well worn leather. Some clean blackberry and boysenberry fruit along with rich minerals remain; however this is past its prime. Finishes a touch austere. Audouze'ed this for about 3-4 hours. Even though this is on the decline, it offers great pleasure for those who appreciate the nuanced layers of well aged St Emillion (me). — 9 years ago

9.4

Deep and dark garnet red with bricking on the edges. Real depth on the nose; lots of smoky notes, cigar box, tobacco leaves, broken branches, earthy dustiness, truffles, forest floor, damp leaves, and light red currants. A bit of stinkiness but not off-putting. Moderate silky tannins (6.5/10) and very well integrated with tons of red fruits as well as unsweetened dark cocoa, twigs, tree bark and a rustic earthiness. Full bodied and well rounded, no sharp edges. More red cherries at the end of the palate with a little vegetal note in the long and lingering finish. Mouth is definitely salivating at the finish too, great acidity. Drink till 2021. — 9 years ago

Domaine Leroy

Les Genaivrières Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2001

As with all Leroy wines, they possess a subtlety that is, at times, challenging to pinpoint. Elegant and refined, the Leroy Vosne-Romanée Les Genevrières 2001 is slightly brickish at the rim with fine flecks of sediment. It unfurls slowly, offering up arresting aromas of dried rose petal, dried leaves and wild strawberries. Silky, with fine tannins, this masterpiece has a minerally core intertwined with notes of dried tea leaves, forest branches, spice and the merest hint of orange peel on the finish. — 10 years ago

Pinot Noir 2004

A wine of exceptional beauty and concentration. 2004 Ayoub, from winemaker Mo Ayoub has aged well. Slightly brickish rim, notes of dusty raspberry, mushroom, forest branches. On the palate, it's silky and fully mature. Black cherries, black tea and sweet tobacco. Savoury, earthy and gorgeous! — 12 years ago

Primitivo clone! With just a smidge of petite Sirah and barbera. In a blind tasting I don’t know what I’d call—it’s all macerated blackberries and strawberries and green branches. Tannins smooth and perfect. Metaphor time? This wine is a “pizza” on some other bread sort. There is something there that makes you identify if and it rocks your tastebud but...It could be another thing. Dang clones. — 7 years ago

Medium to dark garnet with brick edges. Tight on the nose to start with some spices, pepper, roses, a bit of tar and anise. In the backend of the nose there is a bit of blue fruits and a little sweet spices. Heavy tannins (8/10) with a medium plus to full bodied. Savory and earthy on the attack with olives, branches, and leather. With a little more air it got juicier and some perfumey notes. Super dry and long finish. Very approachable with around thirty to an hour in the glass, with more blue fruits coming out. Drink till 2026. — 8 years ago

Just got into Napa from a long day of traveling. Starting in Malibu for India's MBA graduation to Napa for celebrations! We decided to grab a heavy varietal and stick with Napa. This wine was a deep and dark ruby red, actually almost purplish black that completely coated the glass. Very interesting nose that was a little tight to start. Finally opened up over the next hour with some blackberries and freshly broken branches. Started with some softer dark fruits, but also coated with thick blackberries. Not overly sweet at all. Moderate tannins (7/10) and moderate plus body. Some red berries with their bright acidity near the finish. Moderate plus finish. Can see this becoming more integrated with time. Drink till 2022. 89+ — 9 years ago

Monsanto's 2009 Chianti sports notes of earth, forest branches and red berries, and anise. On the palate, bright, mouthwatering acidity and grippy tannins, followed by preserved meat, rose hips and Kuchika Twig tea. I would hold this one for at least another five years or so. — 12 years ago

Salix Chenin St. Saphorin 2016

Color : White
Wine estate : Louis Bovard
Designation : Lavaux
Name : Salix - Chenin Blanc
Country : Switzerland
Vivino : 4.5/5
Note : Louis Bovard makes bio-dynamic culture and has introduced in the Lavaux new grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc. The name of Salix comes from the Latin word meaning the willow, with which one braided the branches to make baskets of vintage. A golden yellow straw robe with a nose of citrus, pineapple and mineral. Once in the mouth, the explosion of flavor with a nice acidity and a taste of citrus and apple. The final is excellent, it remains in the mouth and perfectly accompanied a fish.

Good Times, Bad Times Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Because it’s Monday (and Mondays suck), you pull a good bottle from the cellar. This treat is velvety smooth. The slightest bit of age was detected after opening but it burned off quickly to reveal rich fruit with notes of dark berries. Crayon wax. Rhubarb stalk. Cracked branches. Slightest hint of smoke. — 8 years ago

Pear, stone, oak, more spring than autumn. A breezy spring day with a few dry leaves still blowing down the walkway. Buds on the branches. Glad I'm wearing a sweater. Here comes the sun. Another sip... take a deep clean breath. The grille comes out of the shed for that lovely white fleshed fish with lemon and olive oil. Crusty bread. Asparagus. Jazz or just the birds? Domaines Barons de Rothschild

Brut Champagne Blend

Barons de Rothschild is a collaborative effort between three branches of the Rothschild family—Château Lafite, Château Mouton and Château Clarke. The color of straw, with aromas of brioche, honeycomb and poached pear. The mousse isn't particularly fine, and it's on the lighter side in terms of body. This Champagne possesses a youthful quality, with medium acidity weaving through notes of buttered croissant, apple tart and a hint of minerality on the finish. For a Rothschild project, I had hoped for more. — 11 years ago
