You would not initially think this was a South African wine as it lacks the typical unique earthiness you would usually detect. Instead this has a huge cherry bouquet. It’s overwhelming initially but mellows after breathing for an hour and becomes a very respectable effort. Dark and syrupy and unique in its own right. — 7 years ago
Beautiful Pinot Noir. Great S African! — 7 years ago
3.5. Delicious smooth Bordeaux-type wine with just the right fruits and tannins. From first whiff until the lingering taste a very satisfying if inexpensive wine. On sale for $14.99, usually $16.99. This is one of the best South African reds I have tasted. — 8 years ago
Sample from #CapeClassics.
Medium ruby red. Layered nose with high intensity not watered down. Definite South African Funk starting off a little stinky, gamey, chalky and ended with some light vegetal notes. Solid cherries carried throughout. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) with not much fruit. Full bodied with balanced acidity. Very Bordelaise like withdark red cherries, some savory elements, earthy characteristics like iron and minerality. Very dry and long finish. Beautiful Bordeaux blend from South Africa. Drink till 2024. — 9 years ago
One of the greatest South African wines, blown away by the smooth texture, wonderful flavour. — 9 years ago
One of my favorites. Lush, delicious but not painfully sweet. South African wine. — 6 years ago
Celebrating Bastille Day with the spring dinner of the Confrerie St Etienne of Alsace association. Wonderful menu and perfectly paired wines.
Wow. Leave it to the dessert wine to run away with Wine of the Night! Honeyed cashews, honeyed stone fruits, guava, pineapple, caramel and honeycomb. Like a lighter version of Dolce. Insanely good! On the hunt for some of this. Thought of you @Greg Ballington since it’s a South African wine! — 7 years ago
Tenth red wine at our annual DMV South African wine tasting. Medium to deep ruby red. Chalky attack on the nose with a touch of greenery not vegetal, sweet spices and currants. Medium plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Dark and rich sweet spices and cherries on the attack. Some earthiness and rocks as well on the palate. Long finish. Drink till 2022. — 7 years ago
Having visited the vineyard, I have fond memories whenever I enjoy Vrede en Lust wines, but this one is such a pleasure to enjoy. Smooth with a South African twist! Love it! — 8 years ago

Excellent classic South African Cab. Earthy, mushroom, currant with a lengthy, savory finish. — 6 years ago
Lovely bouquet of scents, very soft tannins, needs a bit of time to open up, a great ambassador of South African wines — 7 years ago
Loving South African wines more and more. Unique minerality, almost a faint burnt rubber smell, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon-lime. Medium body and super refreshing for this Texas heat. — 7 years ago

This one-off Cuvée from the boutique Robert Craig winery which focuses on mountain appellations in Napa is 50% Spring Mountain CS and 50% Howell Mountain Zinfandel (same juice that goes into the Turley Zin) aged 12 months in French Oak, 35% new. Gentle nose of dark fruits, green and sweet bell pepper, coffee, herbs, slight scent of perfume. Silky and savory on the palate with refreshing acidity. Bitter herbal finish. This wine is supple and delicious. And a hell of a deal at $20! — 8 years ago
Best South African chardonnay I've tasted. Stone fruit flavours and slightly sweeter than expected. Stands up to full flavoured food. — 9 years ago
Rich and ripe, slightly oily texture, though lovely acidity. This is a great example of where the future of South African wine is headed — 9 years ago
