This vintage was fantastic. Nicely balanced. Right amount of pepper. Very much an underrated winery. — 6 years ago
Color of inky bubbly purple, with some ruby note. Nose of some oak, fresh grapes, spice, a bit cherry, quite average. Taste of raisin, fermented cabbage, oak, grape skins, a bit zest, and almost nonexistent tannins. Aftertaste of some more grape skins, a bit cocoa, and a bit earthy, definitely not a bold powerful Syrah. — 7 years ago

Color is like liquid copper, amazing. Took about an hour to open, then nearly as good as upon release, nice acid, Loire Cab Franc, tart strawberry on the palate. One more bottle and we're clean out, loved this wine, only found it once. One of our favorite bottles, with a bird on it! — 8 years ago
Always love their Cabs. — 9 years ago
Peachy nose and quite fruity nose opening up to apricot and lemon notes. More lemon and peach than others, which usually have pineapple or pear. Delish! — 6 years ago
At £40-50 Montelena always seems to deliver with their Chardonnay 👍
& no that’s not a manipulated picture - a bird flew by as I took the shot 😎

If I'd known then what I know now. I find cab sav is most often a purchase based on speculation - they're frequently released far too young and are pretty much undrinkable in their youth. All overpowering tannin and intensity. This is an example of one very much worth the wait. Cool climate elegance combined with concentrated fruit and all sorts of complex notes layered throughout: menthol, cedar, blackcurrant, spice, hints of dusty chocolate and gently perfumed oak. Still has years ahead of it. Can't wait for dinner to finish cooking so I can sock it back with a rump steak. Should have bought more way back when! — 9 years ago
Fourth time tasting Lapierre in 2017. I've got a bit of a cold so I'm not enjoying this one as the previous ones. The nose is still a cherry bomb and bears a violet stamp. The palate is still very well balanced with a strong acid backbone, lots of ripe cherry all over the place, some grip, some width. The palate is a cherry song that plays for a very long while. 24 hours later it's still singing. Great! — 6 years ago
Very nice, relaxing drinking wine. No food required! — 7 years ago

Another great round for the flavorful bird , the taste is like apple juice if it was not sweet and had embodied every beutiful flavor of a white wine. — 8 years ago
