Baritone Gully

Rock Wall Wine Co.

Jack's Dry Creek Sonoma County Petite Sirah 2014

Baritone and lush, the 2014 Rock Wall Jack's Dry Creek Petite Sirah is a spicy melange of juicy black cherries, plums, cedar, and bay leaf. Inky and dark in the glass, this Sonoma County red is equally hedonistic on the palate, a riot of black fruit and ripe tannins pierced by a jaunty vein of acidity. 14.8% ABV | Sample — 7 years ago

Bodega San Pedro de Yacochuya

Cafayate Malbec 2008

This wine is dry! There is not a touch of sweetness. But the tannins took us on a great ride from as soon as it touched your mouth to the lingering finish. Deep dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, dark, dried tart prune and date fruit providing a symphony with low baritone, echoing notes, giving this Malbec more structure than I have ever experienced. Harvested from one of the highest elevation vineyards on earth! — 7 years ago

Torbreck Vintners

Woodcutter's Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

As it's name suggests, the Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz is a baritone rumble of smoky blackberries, earthy firmament, black peppercorn and baking spices. The attack is juicy, but well-structured in firm, tightly-wound tannins. Really nice and one I'll want to reach for again, especially when grilling. Sample — 8 years ago

Emmanuel Darnaud

Les Trois Chênes Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2013

Classic Crozes-Hermitage, the 2013 Emmanuel Darnaud Mise en Bouche is composed of 100% Syrah grown in gallet-studded Glacial alluvia. Brooding and baritone, the nose is laden in black fruit. Gamier notes and black olives evolve into blackberries steeped in fresh thyme, violets, and anise pastille. The attack is all black fruit, couched in firm, grippy tannins that terminate in a moderate, if slightly chalky finish accented by cedar and green peppercorn. 13.0% ABV — 8 years ago

Rocky Gully Frankland River Shiraz 2013

Nice color of shades of purple, a bit hazy, and a bit bloody red. Nose of nice leather, sweet oak, dried strawberry, sugar plum, and cherry. Taste is warm, leathery, cranberries, zesty, dried strawberries, and a tiny bit of hickory note. Aftertaste is smooth, basically no tannins, a bit zesty, a bit oaky, and medium long. She is lighter compared to usual Shiraz from Aussie. Overall, she is a tasty wine and enjoy her now. — 7 years ago

Delas Frères

François de Tournon Saint-Joseph Syrah 2011

Great QPR, the Delas Saint-Joseph François de Tournon Rouge 2011 displays baritone aromas of ripe plums, reduced blackberries, anise, wet embers, fruit cake and a a billowing smoky undertow on opening. It's equally glorious in the mouth, I especially like the interplay of tannins and acidity. It's well defined, black fruit bolstered by cedar and Garrigue, I'm enjoying it on its own, certainly, it has the potential to age over the next decade or so. Highly recommended. — 8 years ago
