Everyone likes a story and what hit home about this wine for me had nothing to do with the wine but had to do with him being unapologetic for who he is. His personality matches his wines, big, bold, voluptuous and completely intoxicating (in a good way). The quote that hooked me in? "Ballet lessons aren't cheap, why should my wines be?" As a parent in this business (who also pays for very expensive ballet lessons) I feel you. The wine has pronounced intensity on both the nose and palate of ripe primary fruits (red and black cherries, rhubarb, blackberries, ripe red currants) with an awesome cinnamon stick and black peppercorn notes.big and bold with great acidity, rich ripe tannins and a long finish. Total crowd pleaser, just like him! — 10 years ago
This is why... We drink Burgundy. A sensual ballet on the tongue. Moist earth, leathery funk, burnt straw, supple strawberries into freshly plucked cherry stems. Such vibrant acidity. Finish lingering for days... Yumm. — 10 years ago
An abject lesson in the importance of decanting. Hated this at first, oaky and harshly alcoholic. Let it develop for a few hours and it's come together like magic. It's like I pulled back the curtain on a ballet before the performers were ready. Barbaresco still has my heart. — 11 years ago

Just fantastic. So many things going on in this. Adore it on every level. Emotionally charged & powerful, it reads like the most memorable moment of a great ballet. You get the grace & finesse, but are patently aware of the strength & work underpinning it. Both electric & brooding. Truly great wine. — 9 years ago
'98 vintage. What a beauty! A true ballet dancer, this wine is an absolute jewel of delicacy, elegance and grace. The purity of the nose is of epic proportions with beautiful red berries, black tea and light touches of anis. After an hour or so, spices emerge from the glass, cedar, incense and light camphor (or warm eucalyptus). Mouthfeel is delicious as well, full of balance, bright acidity and a persistent ripe black cherry flavor. I loved this wine! A true foodie wine! — 10 years ago
Another great example of the power & finesse of the Doña Margarita vineyard. Proof that Pinot Noir is the ballet dancer of wine grapes. — 11 years ago

@andrewSPates #naturalwinestudy #2amBaroloStudy: superb, youthful, explosively powerful. Still: ballet grace and lightness — 12 years ago
So delicious. Nice and crispy sweet with some dancing bubbles on your tongue. Like a wine ballet on my tastebuds. — 10 years ago

Great bottle of Rose bubbles for a ballet on a budget! — 10 years ago
Connecticut white wine, so it's got that going for it. Kinda sweet though. Nostalgia value is through the roof, not an every day white though. — 10 years ago
My friend told me it's a very sexy wine, the body is kinda light, and not so much tannin, but you can smell it's complex. Sry still learning how to express a wine, anyways, I could only imagine a 13 yrs girl dancing ballet from it. — 11 years ago

A little pre-ballet champagne live and direct from the 29th floor... I've had the 04 on a couple occasions but it was terrific last night. Light strawberry notes framed by very subtle oak. Brioche and nectarine also build on the nose. Nothing better than sharing a bottle of bolly with the one you love — 9 years ago
