We are not usually big fans of these raisin wines, but this one was actually pretty nice. Punching like a heavyweighter, but still moving around in the ring with the elegance of a ballet dancer.

Always treat yourself to a good birthday wine from your rack!

A huge nose of raisin and prune, as to be expected with both an aged wine, and one of this method.
Huge body, with hints of mint, touches of older, dried herbs. The fruit in this is dark cherry, roast peach, olive oil.
Totally worth aging these. Yum!
Light, gritty tannin all the way through, with the perfect pitch of acidity to counteract the fruit.

Decomposing hazelnuts on this very big, expressive nose.

Heavy handed, anise, clove, cinnamon bark, prune, waves of powdered Peruvian chocolate, Hazelnuts again, as a wrap up flavor, then, the addition of a lingering tangelo acid, now mingled with the hazelnut tannins.
An excellent choice for a birthday wine.
Decanted for 8 hours, as I have found Amarone demands.

Amarone sure has changed in the last decade or so. Nose of high-toned VA (slightly off-putting to me) riding over prune and fig notes. Slight chocolate notes along with prune and raisin on the palate. What has changed is that the acid is very good, the fruit is not so cooked as is traditional, and hence the weight comes off less heavy. This wine can actually pair with food. Big tannins.

Nariz: ciruela, pasas, arandano, chocolate

Boca: Tanino M/ M+, Acidez M, Alcohol Alto.

La fruta madura pero fresca todavia, a tomar o aguantar un poco mas.
