Certainly well named - the Japanese are very exact with this description - “Peaty and Salty” nails it. I don’t drink a lot of whisky but as the weather cools down it was a great little tipple - one of the best I’ve had in recent years. Iodine/seaweed notes through the spirit. Not shy at 55% ABV and expensive for this 500ml bottle at $300 AUD but superb quality. — 6 years ago
Pithy with very smoky minerality, fresh orchard fruit and floral overtones. Lovely. — 7 years ago
Very interesting! A Japanese Whiskey with some peaty smoke and alcohol burn. — 8 years ago
Nose is apple, fresh and light. In the mouth very light and jovial as well. Fruity and then lightly bitter on the finale. Very feminin and elegant. — 9 years ago
Full bodied and complex wine. Notes of blackberry, currant, pepper and floral. Wine feels a bit young even after decanting for 2+ hours. Excited to see what it will be in a handful of years. — 3 years ago
Les Amoureux by Xavier Vignon, another single-vintage wine in the Arcane portfolio, is a beautiful embodiment of the southern Rhône from the spectacular 2016 vintage. A blend of 80% Grenache, with the 20% split between Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Caladoc, and sourced from the AOCs of Gigondas, Lirac, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise and Rasteau, it’s a fragrant but powerful wine that balances bright red fruit, dollops of garrigue and a smokey character with a good amount of acidity and tannin characteristic of a young Rhône wine. A basic Côtes du Rhône given the blend of multiple terroirs, this is the finest of Vignon’s wines that I’ve tasted to date and it should age well for the next decade. — 5 years ago
Bought this in Soichi. Very smooth whiskey. Will buy again. — 6 years ago
Great, smooth taste. Hints of caramel and toffee. Reminds me of a good scotch at the end. — 8 years ago
Hot damn that's tasty. Sweet molasses and spice in a glass. — 9 years ago
Less fruit than suggested and also more peaty than expected - however wonderful pear and a great smokey finish — 10 years ago
Dark and rich. A little sweeter than I expected with the port. Would buy again. — 3 years ago
Yummy. Needs to be aerated. Gets fruity. — 4 years ago
A little sweeter than I would like for a rye but so smooth — 6 years ago
Rich amber color. Luscious red fruits, licorice, honey, and cardamom in the nose. Deeper flavors on the palate, with very rich mouthfeel and hints of light smoke. Luxurious finish. Nice to be tasting some Japanese whisky again after a dry spell in California! — 7 years ago
Enjoying a bourbon with my buddy, Joe. — 8 years ago
Clean, briny and peaty. Warm on the finish. Needed a little water to open up. — 9 years ago

I bought this for the winter months and finished the last of it over the weekend. This is a blended malt named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese Whisky. He was the first Japanese who mastered Whisky making in Scotland and brought this expertise back to Japan. It was an incredibly pure and rich Whisky with a certain smokiness. I don’t drink enough Whisky to know the difference but this could easily have been Scotch to my palate. 43% ABV. — 3 years ago
