Steve Peck- If Paso Robles had a sister city among European wine regions, it could very well be Jumilla, Spain. Both are known for 50 degree diurnal temperature swings and calcareous soils. The wines are incredibly ripe and juicy if this example from Gil Family is typical. 70% Monastrell (aka, Mourvèdre), 30% Cabernet. This wine walks the line between the unctuous Rhone genre and the tightness of Bordeaux. Huge fruit volume with a rounded palate. Label declares 16%, but you would never guess it. I'm impressed. — 10 years ago
Excellent wine to enjoy and thoughtfully analyze ...balanced all around with the perfect touch of old world charm aka brett — 11 years ago
Such an easy drink... Loving the Monastrells (aka Mouvedre) from this area in Spain. Great value and bang for the buck!!!!!
There are quite a few being imported now, find one quickly!!!

My first Mansois, aka Fer Servadou from the tiny VDQS north of Toulouse (161 hectares /400 acres). Raspberry, brambly aromas follow through to the palate which is a bright hello that mellows softly. — 10 years ago
Utterly delicious. Rose with some heft, aka my favorite. — 10 years ago
Beautiful Merenzao aka Trousseau aka Bastardo.
Earthy nose of dried cherry, rose petals, forest floor, lanolin, spice. Light-bodied, with excellent balance of acid, fruit, tannin and alcohol (12.5% abv). — 11 years ago
Less than 350 cases, Guigal hermitage old clone of Syrah aka Serine with some Viognier. Lieu-dit La Viallière meaning special soils of decomposed schist and gneiss. No chemicals, natural yeasts, and Demi-muids/ new wood barrels. Ruby garnet color with aromas of bacon, cherry, rose petals while silky on the palette with some herbal notes on the finish. Medium to full body. — 11 years ago

100% Graciano aka Muristellu aka Bovale Sardo. Immediately recognizable nose when opened with perfume of floral and cherry. On the palate it has nice fruit boysenberry, cranberry, and red cherry. Lively acidity, but still full bodied. Earthy & spice on the finish with a hint of vanilla. — 7 years ago
