This is a very good - but not great - incarnation of Cris Cherry's take on grenache. Gets the fruit from Denner, I believe, this wine had an odd component on the initial nose that actually reminded me of a beaujolais nouveau (i.e., the carbonic maceration component). That dissipated after ca. 20 minutes to reveal some terrific red and blue fruits on the palate. There's sufficient acidity to keep it moving, so I suspect that it will shed some baby fat over the next 1-2 years and become far more interesting. A good wine now that's fun to drink but one that will likely improve with a bit of time (but not too much time!).

With my sister and father in Spain, why not open a Grenache? Most know Spain's dominant grape, Tempranillo; however, this variety is becoming more common both blended or single vineyard. Decanting is required. It initially tasted acidic, but after 45 minutes, the glass mellowed into a dark berry bouquet! Villa Creek has been making amazing Rhone Valley blends; this bottle is worth trying if you can find it. Cheers!!
