Rustic and finesse normally aren’t bedfellows - until I tasted this wine! Forrest floor on the nose; rich dark fruit complement the structures tannins that help make the wine have a long finish!

2011 Sine Qua Non Estate Grenache “Patine” from Manfred’s Eleven Confessions Vineyard. Opened this in Lexington a couple of weekends ago after about a four hour decant. Poured into a really bad wine glass in a really great hotel. Why does that always seem to be the case? Seems to be the case even in some 5 star restaurants. No? But I digress. (Apparently, I need to start traveling with my Zalto). Perfumed notes of white flowers and fresh berries. On the palate, mocha, plums and dark berry fruit turned up to 11. Notes of fresh cut herbs, spice rack and white pepper. Typical SQN endless finish. Exquisite acidity. Beautifully layered and wonderfully concentrated. This wine has an elegant, femininity about it. I’ve always sort of thought of SQN Grenache as feminine in character, I guess as opposed to Manfred’s rather muscle-bound Syrah. Although more than enjoyable now, I’ve gotta believe that it will only get better with some cellar time.
