Day 2 of Napa in the books!
20yrs young! This was also served to us blind and we all guessed it was mid-late 2000s Seavey Cab. All the red and black fruit notes are still present with mellowed out tannin. Very smooth and polished. Big note of baked mixed berry (cherry, blackberry) pie that is covered in a cloud of sweet vanilla pipe tobacco. Ripe & rich up front, savory in the middle, balanced finish. Incredible for its age.

This was an amazing example of Napas ability to age. Fruit was present but the non fruit qualities were starting to express. It was amazing!

Seavey spring release party. Barbecue and the following wines:
2020 Seavey merlot
2020 Caravina cabernet
2019 Seavey estate cabernet
1999 Seavey estate cabernet
Had to buy a magnum of the 1999 Seavey estate cab to drink tonight....such an inspired wine and in its prime (see previous notes).

Had to buy a magnum of the 1999 Seavey estate cab to drink tonight....such an inspired wine and in its prime (see previous notes).
1 hour decant (decent chunky cloudy sediment). An astonishing dark ruby red color still, with just a little bricking. On the nose: that sweet aged cab perfume, old leather, menthol, eucalyptus, touch of plum, little funky earth. Taste: smooth, soft, rich, precise and structured wine with dark fruit, smoke, chocolate espresso, pencil lead, cassis, spice, and plummy cedar long finish. What a delicious representation of aged Cali cab!!!!! YUM.

This is what old school Napa is all about. Savory red fruit, deep aromatic and full of life. This has another 10 years of good drinking. Special wine!

Aug 27th, 2020Double decant (lots of chunky sediment) and pour. A noble dark garnet color with little browning on the edges. On the nose: beautiful.....that sweet aged cab aroma with blue fruit, black olives, green veggies, eucalyptus, crushed rocks. Taste: Red plum, chocolate espresso, pencil lead, some blackberry. Beautiful sweet tannins coat the mouth....such a elegant, rich wine with a long finish.
