The Palindrome California Tannat

Dark near-black purple that clings to the glass. Blackberry, black blueberry, caramel on the nose and full palate. Medium acidity. Medium tannins (appropriate for its age). Lengthy dark finish. Fine New World representation of the variety.

This wine gives the lie to the popular and too often accurate conceit that big wines are not balanced. This has the best of the Rosenblums written all over it: big dark fruit, high octane, and major juice appeal, all packed up in a grippy, concentrated, well structured package. $20 a couple of years ago. This has the acids and depth to go several more years. Glad I cracked it open tonight.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the first and only 90 point rated Tannat from California, or even North America for that matter. But that's not what makes this wine awesome, it's the juice inside
