This week, my Friday’s Cabernet fix is from Napa Valley.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish/reddish rim.

On the nose blueberries, plums, strawberries, wood, licorice, earth, eaucaliptus, metals, peppercorn, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and spices.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Tart on the attack and dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, oak, bell pepper, vanilla, licorice, earth, chocolates, tobacco, bitter herbs, spices and black pepper.

Nice finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.

This Napa Cabernet is still young. Drinkable now, but harsh with big tannins. A little off balance with green, bitter notes, but it has nice complexity and interesting acidity.

Does not have the Napa Cabernet character, more subdued, even though this 2012 was a great vintage. Feels like a Sonoma Cabernet more than a Napa one.

Needed 2 hours in a decanter to open up properly.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Nice Cabernet. Well aged. I’ve had this in my wine frig for many years. Rich purple color. Nice fingers. Blackberry and black cherry on the palate. Hint of chocolate and pepper on the finish. Smooth tannins.
