Like a high end Apothic Red. Off-dry, loads of oak and tons of alcohol. Tastes like a science experiment coming out of laboratory. Understand why people love it, but just way too over the top. Classic Wagner Family wine.

Sipping Fine Wine

Quilt pays tribute to Napa’s wines, sourced from a patchwork of prime Napa Valley vineyards. Met Joseph Wagner a few times & tasted his wines. Tried ‘14 ‘15 & ‘16. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, sweet spice and cedar. On palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with vanilla, oak and leather notes, well balanced. Fine soft tannins, nice mouthfeel, on long finish ending with cacao, oak and tobacco character. Consistent quality, has room to age. Nice!

So much oak I'm trying to get the splinters out of my mouth. Yowzers! Definitely the house style of the Wagners.

Ok, so I admit it - I usually rag on the Wagner style of wine.. "over the top, overextracted, inky, rich fruit.. no balance."... put all of that aside and you actually have a really enjoyable drink here when you just don't want to think. Stewed blackberry, black currant, vanilla, and mocha fill the glass with a seamless finish. Joey says it best: "go with your palate."

Napa Valley Quilt cabernet sauvignon vintage 2014, if you can't tell. Winemaker is Joseph Wagner of Caymus fame.

Like the style of Caymus, this Quilt is quintessential Napa Valley, dark and opaque with flashes of ruby at the rim. The nose is all vanilla and red plum and purple flowers while the palate is smooth as molasses with wood influenced sweetness to spare.

It's that wood that I don't much care for. I like my wine with oak to play a part, not to overact, as it were. This oak takes center stage whether you want it to or not.
