Leather and oak on nose. Full body, dry, prominent tannins. Currants, licorice, and tobacco on the palate.

Interesting to compare these wines tonight. With 3 years of age on the Ratti it shows in the obvious areas. Color is leaning brown. Cherry and rose are giving way to earthy flavors. It's obviously impossible to determine if the younger wine would exceed the Pio Cesare 3 years, but given it's current complexity, I'm giving the nod to Ratti.

If you like classic Barolos this is not for you. If you really like Barolo, period, this might not be for you. Lots of oak flavors-vanilla, cedar. Not much of the fruit or the earthy flavors that come with a decent bottle. Lots of alcohol on the nose. Let it breathe for a while. Still. The color is wrong. The flavors are off. It does not really taste like Barolo. For the price I thought I would get something a little better than this. I drink a lot of Barolo. You can usually find a decent bottle for this price.
