Jul 8th, 2020Excellent value. At Costco. Nose is underwhelming, but it’s all zin all the time after that: nice heat, big mouthfeel, smoother than many zins at double the price. RIPE red fruits: sweet plums, hint of super ripe cherries, but not anything like the “cerise ” of a Pinot Noir. This is more of a combination of ted fruits in late spring before cloying sweetness of summer sets in and after the green first-of-season rush has passed. Lovely, really. Goes with bold meats and cheeses and dark chocolates, as most zins do, but can be sipped nicely on its own too.
Much better than a “table wine” but not anywhere near a “special occasion wine”. perfect to enjoy on its own merits, with aforementioned foods and other fare, and to serve to most guests without apology.
