Louis Latour
Les Referts Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay

I don't typically buy / have anything to do with Louis Latour wines, but this was a quite generous gift. This showed impressively at first, but then the finish seemed to fall apart after a couple hours open and become disjointed a bit; a layer of lemon over here; some acidity here; some wood spice oaky layers in this corner over here somewhere behind a vaguely Meursault-like salinity. If only these heavily-etched elements could integrate somehow. Maybe with time this will happen to this wine. I'm not going to complain given the price I paid, but hey, something about the Louis Latour brand seems a bit mass-produced and flaky. Gets fresh fishy, saccharine and minty. Perhaps I am being unfair because of my skepticism vis à vis the Latour brand. Although, in 08, if you can't put together a marvelous 1er cru Puligny you just gotta pack your bags, I'd think.
