Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2006 pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity, with faint staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of tart and ripe, mostly red fruit: raspberries, strawberry, red flowers, mushrooms, forest floor, and gentle baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and silky. I found this to be quite a remarkable showing from a somewhat unremarkable vintage. Perfect pairing with the duck. Drink now through 2036.
