Shadowy ruby. Delicious. Fragrant with raisin, red fruit, blackberry, goji berry, herbal spices, blood orange, a bit of chocolate, leather and earth. Nice acidity and brightness on the palate, with just a pleasant balancing touch of sweetness. Feels like it’s in the prime of its evolution, with some fruit remaining but developing complexity. Could definitely go another 5 or more years. I think it would be really great with duck.

Sep 20th, 2020Classic Amarone, with the bitter cherry flavor that is expected. This wine is aged just the right amount. It still needs to be decanted, as I have found with Amarones, at least 2 hours. One it has breathed, it offers flavors of bitter dark chocolate, followed by bitter cherry. The nose is perfect. And there is still fruit in the long finish. It went well with my goat cheese and mushroom salad smothered in balsamic di Modena, matching the vinegar and mushroom flavors perfectly.
