At £80+ this is by far my favourite Rioja & vintage at present 😍 My 9th try & still changing every time with rich balsamic showing through now 👍

👃 Smoked oak through mashed earthy cherries covered in vanilla coconut cream, balsamic jam & double caramel choc mocha w/ red liquorice, truffle, prune & light spiced herbs
👄 Med body of rich smooth silky creamy dark cherry bathed in balsamic goo w/ mocha & earthy liquorice
🎯 Long balsamic cherry mocha berry blast w/ a balsamic linger & touch of woody oak

Bright herbal and cranberry notes on the nose. Somewhat floral. The palate is amazing! Both red and black fruits with menthol and Herbs de Provence. Complex and a lengthy finish. This is an awesome wine!

Still a bit wound up on day one, great aromas. Day two opened and showed the goods, super sophisticated pen inky mineral, menthol tobacco, both tart and oozy cherries. Give it 10 more years to peak.

2001 - a great vintage of a traditional 125 year old producer. Long palate with depth and balance. Reminds me of what called me into wine-loving.
