Sapid and lengthy with good energy, but the new oak character was quite jarring at this stage. Odd considering there’s little to no new oak according to the specifications sheet. Regardless, there was heaps of butterscotch, popcorn, and toasty notes, which seem to dominate the citrus and stone fruits (even a touch of pineapple) after 3+ hours open. Flinty (treading towards a petrol-like character) and lightly floral aromas add to the intrigue. Medium-to-full bodied, with a mineral laser-focused finish. It misses the mark for me right now especially when it comes to Lamy, but I can certainly see this improving once the oak integrates.
