Hirsch Vineyards
East Ridge Pinot Noir
Dinner at Val’s.
The East Ridge is a topographically distinct micro-site within the Hirsch Vineyard. Two thirds of the vines on the East Ridge have phylloxera, a disease that attacks the roots and inhibits the vine’s uptake of nutrients. This results in some of the lowest yields at Hirsch. The East Ridge Pinot Noir is a powerful expression of the Hirsch Vineyard, with fantastic structure, concentration and fruit. 615 cases produced. 13.1% alc.
“Translucent ruby red. Sapid, expressive nose of spiced cherry and dark raspberry with a hint of toast and bacon fat. Excellent acidity drives the wine in the mouth. The wine is tensile, focused and incisive, with a precise minerality that stays clear of harshness. Impressive depth and delineation of flavours, only slightly coiled up at moment, yet all are held in perfect balance. This is gonna be a stunner in a few years — and one that will be nearly impossible to tell apart from its Burgundian brethrens. Wow!” AC, 2017
“This offers red cherries, sous bois and sappy, earthy freshness. The palate heads more towards blue fruit with a smooth band of fine pinot tannin and beautifully preserved acidity, holding a long, mouthwatering finish.” JS 93, 2017
