Fun story about this wine. I bought it in 2004 and it’s been sitting with another hundred bottles of wine in a French friends root cellar near Chablis since then. A week ago I picked up all the bottles and brought them to Beaune.

2001: Youthful color. Not the type of alluring aspect typical from Clos. A pleasant chardonnay, however, this bottle lacking the oomph you expect from Raveneau. No lemon lime, no custard, no third dimension that makes you regret the last sip. Not flawed, just a straight forward experience.

A very precise and pretty nose. Fantastic minerality, and a bright, delicate white flower and honey component. On the palate, sooo good. Great balance. Real acidity but very light and detailed. Lovely depth on the midpalate. With time more saline and marine notes coming through. This is really classy and complex, and an exercise in balance. Really good.

A bit blowsy and odd on the nose at first, but went on to become a really interesting wine in the glass. A lot of character but almost Loire-like in structure and flavor. Delicious but unusual for a Raveneau Clos
