FLEURIE LIEU-DIT CHAMPAGNE Gamay
Fleurie, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France
Lovely nose of tweed jacket, ripe black cherries, sweet blackberries and tons of granite. Floral as well. Really nice. Palate is ripe and rich with wonderful treacly texture and terrific balance and fruit definition. Exceptional finish and freshness. One of the better 18’s for sure. Nice red plum as well developing on the nose. Velvety tannins and substantial structure suggests a good 10-15 years ahead of it and better likely in 5 years. With air fruit gets lusher and sweeter. Terrific stuff!

Nose has muddled blackberries, over-ripe black cherries, sweet black licorice (not overly anise type), wet potting soil and moist leather.
Palate has blackberry compote, plum skin, ripe mulberry, lavender, old/dry leather and faint molasses cookie. Bold and jammy.
Slow oxidation 4H, then double-decant for service. Improvement in our glasses.
As I understand, this is only the second vintage which Marrans bottled the Lieu-dit 'Champagne' as a separate wine, normally a blending parcel that goes into their top cuvée.

Excellent Gamay. Really enjoy how this lighter red still had some good pepper and oak.
