Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2016 Reserva pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red and black fruits: black cherry, tobacco, cocoa, dill, vanilla and associated warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a textbook, modern leaning and clean version of Rioja Reserva. Drink now through 2046.

At this stage quite a tough wine to enjoy, even after a solid decant. Everything’s a little out of kilter at the moment, with the oak dominating it all. 91 points for the wine’s potential, as I’m sure age will do it plenty of favours. But still, not a patch on the fabulous 2015.

The nose is immediately captivating with lush crème de cassis and dark cherries, intertwined with the more reserved, classic aromas of sweet tobacco, leather, and dried herbs, and a whisper of coconut. The palate is full-bodied and intense with powerful core of dark fruits reined in by a backbone of crisp acidity and silky tannins. The sweet oak spices and dark berries on the long finish is of particular satisfying.
It will continue to evolve and reward cellaring for another decade, if not longer.

Mmm… smells and tastes of Spain. Prominent oak and cedar with dark fruits and spice. Round and full mouthfeel with a smooth finish. Drink fast - started losing a bit of smoothness towards the end of the bottle.

Fantastic wine with smooth oaky undercurrents. Initial fruit forward with the woody oak middle and jammy finish. More fruit forward than vina tondonia reserve albeit younger.

A cherry forward red with a licorice nose. A mouthful of red fruit, hints of raspberry and cranberry. A light red that can be enjoyed on its own or with light meat, spicy food and cheeses. An enjoyable red.
