Best Monkey Jacket yet. Fresh, but structured. Too easy to drink.

Michael Cruse’s 2017 Monkey Jacket, a Valdiguié/Petite Sirah/Carignan and mixed blacks blend, is dark, racy and absolutely gorgeous. Black cherry, plum, spice and leather notes race out of the glass in this pliant, super-expressive red. $25.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2019)

Very approachable. Cherry and raspberry aroma. Slightly astringent palate, plum skin, lavender. Crushable for sure

Fresh berries, pomegranate, black currants, with hint of cacao and chalkiness on the finish. Light and easy to drink with mild tannins. Valdiguie shines through.

Like a richer, darker Beaujolais.

Soft, aromatic, fruit driven... a fieldblend of Valdigue and 8 other grapes. ABV of 12.5 that is eminently crushable on a warm summer eve. I can’t smell or sip without cracking a smile... the wine is fun to drink with a capital “F”. Aromas of dark cherries, brown sugar, cinammon, and baking spices.

Hot damn. A Valdiguie red blend with Syrah and field blend for a bit of character. Strawberries and cherries with tartness that moves in like the marine layer. Should've bought more
