Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend

Vintage 2015 / a box full of peaches and baked ananas honey chubby, lacks real tension (due to the year)

For my tastes, this is classic Sauternes. Not stored in optimal conditions but purchased on release and kept in the coolest place i could find. On the nose there was honey, caramelized pineapple and apricots. Could definitely smell the botrytis “funk” for the first hour of being open. Palate was rich, honeyed and mouth coating. Definitely has some acidity to cut through the stilton and other soft cheeses served and the best part was 1.5 hrs in when the honeyed peach/nectarine and apricots really came out. Spectacular.

This fabulous 2015 vintage is fresh, vibrant, acidic and crispy with pineapple 🍍, candied orange, caramel apple and hints of fresh banana! This may be the second wine of rieussec but the great vintage makes up for it. Deliciously cuts through the fattiness of the fois gras. Very nice.

Ripe, fruity and sweet dessert wine.

Sweet honey aroma. Full bodied close to syrup viscosity. Quite sweet but mellows out after a few sips. Nice desert wine. $15 max would be fair.

Taste blend of Chardonnay and blanc, floral on the nose but drier. Gets better as you taste more, but leaves strong finish
