Opening up like a Pinot, started off with potpourri and lemon zest, floated off to sandalwood, cigar tobacco, white and yellow flowers, blackberry, and leather and bee pollen. Flavors swing from bright, lemon-fresh berries and somehow flow through a gammut of berries and grapes into a dark, cocoa, flinty rock. A single, elegant cascade through flavors that lasts over a minute. A slow ride that ends so sweetly and softly you forget how much you're looking to sip again. Astonishing how bright this wine still is.

An unexpectedly solid contender this far out of the gate from an unremarkable vintage. Bricked ruby color, on the lighter side of medium bodied, reticent earthy nose, spicy and autumnal with lashings of iodine, contrasting tartness with lively kicking acidity.

Mag- "oh, hand that other big bottle over here" she said. Homage to Lauren Bacall. Sexy and a deep voice!

My WOTN amongst all of the first growths in 1952! Remarkably young and vibrant in the glass. Great structure and abundant fruit in the glass. It is astonishing that this bottle is 70 years old!!

Very spicy fruit, with lots of blackcurrant character, very fresh with light tannins. There is a streak of ginger right through the wine, finishing with lively acidity.
