1986 vintage. Not at all what you'd expect from Latour. A decent Pauillac that lacks depth and charm.

Decanted for four hours. My least fave of the 5 86 Firsts. A little disjointed.

Bright young colour still, nice flavours despite its youth and on the palate very balanced, long finish

And then there was this beauty. Generous, good weight and very typical Latour of structure finely offset with finesse. Again tasted blind and open about 4-5 hours.

I was so nervous about proposing recently that I forgot my two birthyear wines I had saved for almost a year. Happy Belated to ME! Still celebrating the engagement too. A lot to celebrate! To those who are wondering if 86s are approachable yet, they are. This wine had been solid as a rock forever, but today it was seamless. Dank and pretty, intense cassis and black currant and blackberry reduction. Somehow fresh cut floral notes like lavender and cherry blossom. Fresh earth tone to it with an endless iron steel like mineral finish. Complimented by a rich wood tone. Perfectly softened tannins. This bottle was a milestone for me.

Usually have the best wine of the week at Sunday lunch. The 86 Latour is this weeks wine of the week. Hi Tannic year in Bordeaux and many experts think that Latour lost the plot in 86 with most thinking that Mouton was the wine of the vintage. This wine had lots of leather savouriness with no fruit character but still a class act. A good wine but not at the usual superlative Latour standard.

Very much the Gentlemans Claret. I can imagine drinking this in a men's club in Pall Mall. Lacking some fruit at this age. More leather and liquorice. Fine persistent tannins. No need for further cellaring. 18.
