Dark rubi robe, nose of top soil, asphalt, leather and cedar wood with hints of tobacco and blackcurrant. Classical cabernet in the mouth, peppery and complex, medium bodied, great length, steak tartare. Sooo good !

Jul 8th, 2026A very balanced wine in his late secondary evolution. Lots of fruit left, civilized tannins, medium bodied and much better than most 88s we had. Good now but really no rush. Excellent bottle !!

The '88 Château Haut-Bailley Red Bordeaux struck me immediately with gamey, mushroomy and earthy aromas that melted into a creamy palate of chocolate with espresso undertones. The fruit was no longer forefront, but the overall taste profile was still satisfying. However, I would say it is at the end of the prime drinking window.
