One of the better “Seconds” I’ve ever had and surprisingly open for business right now. Blackberries, tobacco, charred jalapeños. Very primary. After a few hours, this started to recoil a bit which leads me to believe these will shut down at some point and re-emerge with some real strength down the road. Calon-Segur is one of the few properties in Bordeaux that have my attention anymore. They age with some real grace and just win, win, win no matter what.

Tonight is Daylights savings time and I picked up the 2016 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur from Saint - Estephe. This wine is the 2nd bottling of Châtéau Calon Ségur and it is 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black plum, vanilla, cassis, violets and graphite.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, cassis, green bell pepper, violets, oak and earth.

The wine is medium to full bodied that has a smooth velvety mouth feel with medium + acidity and medium + smooth rounded tannins that leads to a long fresh dark fruit finish. Have a continued enjoyable and safe weekend. Nostrovia. 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Phew....a real powerhouse here! Full of tannins, dry, and strong (almost overpowering) notes of cedar, tobacco, vanilla, pencil shavings/lead, black plum, and black currant. Definitely needs much more time until maturity, but will age exceptionally well. I'm not touching the 2016 Cos d'Estournel for quite some time....
