Very hedonistic. Just so intense and concentrated… perhaps at the expense of finesse and drinkability at this stage. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a great Champagne. I just liked it a bit more when first popped, where it had a fresher apple and pear profile and more pronounced chalkiness. With air, the fruit profile really “sweetened”, showing an almost dried apricot-kind of character. It also gained a creamy, pastry richness which I thought overpowered the chalky elements. Expectedly full-bodied and vinous, with razor-sharp cut and very lengthy finish. As mentioned, this was very impressive and everyone on the table thought so too, but I found it a touch fatiguing to drink, and the fruit sweetness definitely irked me. One for the cellar, I reckon.

Love this Cuvée. Super aromatic for Champagne, with layers of rich orchard fruit, perfumed citrus oils and gun smoke. The palate is creamy and satiny, so textural and so giving. Such a singular, vinous Champagne and always a perfect example of Bouchard’s style. 2017 is already drinking beautifully. Best in a Burgundy glass.

Love this Cuvée. First time trying 2017, which Bouchard clearly nailed. Elected to not decant, and just go with a Burgundy glass. It’s highly aromatic for Champagne, revealing layers of rich orchard fruits, perfumed citrus oils and a touch of gun smoke. The palate is creamy and satiny, so textural and so giving. Such a singular, vinous Champagne and the perfect example of Bouchard’s style. Love these wines, and really impressed with how well 2017 is drinking already.
