Birdie: You opened my last 2011 Bevan Ontogeny, didn’t you.
Me: Damn right I did.
Birdie: Woof you.

Second of the blind wines and gifted to us by @TheSkip. Thanks Steve!

Deep ruby red core and a tad lighter on the edges with a touch of sediment. Layered nose but not overpowering at all like other Bevans, notes of sweet spices, cinnamon and dark berries. Medium plus to heavy integrated tannins (7/10) with a touch of heat. Some jammy black fruits on the palate with some anise and a little vegetal. Full attack but thinned out before the finish. Vegetal notes took some time but blew off being some more dark berries to the palate. Medium to medium plus bodied with a long finish. Solid work in a touch vintage. Drink till 2021.

Explosive nose of coffee, roasted meat, and herbs, backed by pure blackberry and cassis fruit. A little shy on depth.

Bevan Cellars “ Ontogeny” is an entry level cab with a high-end taste. Decanted about 30 minutes this wine turns into a delicious, full -mouthed experience with hints of bing cherries, spiced chocolate and floral finish. A must try for serious cab drinkers.

Balanced, but tending towards the ripe side. Very good for its type.

Pure Delight- I have tremendous sapidity for the depth of flavors in this pour. Each sip preeminent of the one before-demanding with an erotic breath to finish. Full bodied layers graced with sultry elegance. An incredibly tight powerful and lasting coat on every sip.
Here’s to nights we’ll never remember and friends we’ll never forget
