Sipping Fine Wine

‘Las Alturas' Spanish for 'the heights', a fitting name, this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. 4th gen Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner from family with farming & winemaking roots in Napa since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across). Nice berry and floral spice aromas. Rich cherry/plum flavors with oak, spice and vanilla. Long finish ending with sweet oak notes. Nice! A Fav!

The 2019 Pinot Noir Las Alturas captures all the signatures of the Belle Glos style and yet has quite a bit of freshness too. That makes for a compelling Pinot for readers who enjoy big, large-scaled wines. Sweet spice, rose petal, lavender and spice are nicely kicked up here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2022)

Floral with strong strawberry and light orange essence. Lighter body than what I expected, but enjoyable with a rainy night.

Medium ruby color.
Aromas of black cherry compote and vanilla.
It is dry with smooth, moderate tannins. However, the acidity seems to have been raised artificially, leaving an acrid taste in the mouth. Flavors of acetone, black fruit, and vanilla.
Intensity: 4/5
Complexity: 2/5
Balance: 2/5
Finish: 3/5

Took a good 45 minutes to open up but then it was liquid silk. Deep, rich flavors like Clark and Telephone.
