This wine was such an experience - and to think I got it free from the Morales family themselves in Spain.. What a treat. My first Rioja blanco reserva and it was fantastic! The nose was extravagant with a staunch petrol note, backed by toasty oak (the most I've smelled in a white, due I'm sure to the 18 months in new French oak), cinnamon, and a touch of mint.
The palate is medium bodied, melon notes and tons of minerality abound. A fresh lemony acidity rounds out the palate. I would have guessed Mosel Riesling if tasted blind.. What a unique and delicious wine. — 9 years ago
