Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 pours a pale yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with intense, ripe notes of Comice pears, baked green apple, mixed fruit cup, lemons, white tree flowers, lanolin, raw almond, tarragon, a touch of raw honey and minerals. On the palate, the wine is off-dry(?) with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. I questioned the off-dry call because I actually think it’s dry but the power and ripeness of the fruit, not to mention the 15% ABV(!!), give the impression of sweetness. An utterly balanced wine despite the big personality. A wine that gives main character energy. I wish I had a week or more to track the development because this is such a wee babe. Drink now to experience its youth and enjoy through 2049. — 9 months ago

I have enjoyed this producers vineyard over many vintage and this might be the best.

The 22 vintage is stunning and as good as it is, 23 might be better based on a somewhat limited exposure at this point.

The entry is glorious…such balance and wire to wire it doesn’t change much.

Green apple, perfect lemon & lime pulp into subtle candy, grapefruit, white stone fruit, kiwi, tropical melons, pineapple, cream reduction, saline, perfect sea fossils, fine powdery taut chalkiness, crisp volcanics, white spice, grey volcanic minerals, limestone marl, mix of fresh & dry stubble herbs, honeysuckle, light caramel, warm lightly done toast, yellow florals, spring flowers with greens, grand waterfall acidity, beautiful structure-tension, incredible balance with an elegant finish that lasts two-minutes and long sets on volcanic minerals and spice.

Decanted 1 hour.

When I first started buying this bottling, it was $50-$60, now $150. Might be my last bought. My white spend has a more limited range than my red. Don’t think I’m alone.

To say this is entry level Soave would do it no justice.
Garanega grapes from 30 year old vines grown in Basaltic volcanic soil. 100 % stainless steel production.
Shiny green gold in colour.
Mineral driven with notes of wild yellow flowers, golden apples, marzipan and almonds.
Crisp acidity on the finish.
This wine begs for scallops regardless how you prepare them. — a year ago

This South African is an almost perfect World Class Chardonnay. WS rated it no. 57 of the 2018 Top 100. They say it’s “ Melon, yellow apple, white peach and quince flavors give this (wine) an opulent feel. I agree with the WS review and add Intoxicating fruit aromas, clean crisp mouth feel with a refined finish. If you enjoy Chardonnay this one is a standout. Cheers 🍷 — 6 years ago

No formal notes . This is more lemon yellow . Not showing much perlage . Spiced ginger bread , slightly meaty notes . With some orange rind , and brioche , dried mushroom notes . This is creamy and rich on the palate , lovely spiced yellow fruits orange peel, and brioche . Long and complete , perfect now and over the next 5 or so years. Still quite medium light lemon yellow , pretty youthful looking . Was pretty difficult to get the cork out and wasn’t going to risk sabrage on a bottle of Salon ! A few very fine but persistent bottles . Nicely yellow fruit driven nose , lemon peel, vanilla , acacia , orange blossom and pastry . On the palate quite rich and rounded , those citrus peel notes , mixed with oyster shell , and dried apricot , and baked pastry . Quite a lot of extract still and really quite fresh , long and well balanced finish . Perfect drinking now and over the next 10 years perhaps. This is the original release from a case purchased here in Brazil about 7 years ago, still going strong which is good to know . — 2 years ago
