Villa Wolf

Ernst Loosen Pfalz Gewürztraminer 2022

Amazing wine. Aroma is honeydew, apple, pear, apple blossom, honeysuckle, orange flower water, and even a hint of minerality in there. Palate has the same notes in the aroma, wine is a bit sweeter than I usually go for but not unbalanced with the acidity. Took down two bottles of it and could do more. Will drink again — 10 months ago

v13. Very good. Lengthy decant. Soft, candied cherry and smoked meat nose. Rich, blackberry and black cherry fruit. Full round, black pepper and earth finish . The legs on the glass never end!!!! — 4 years ago

Sceales Vineyard Old Vine Grenache

Seventy-five plus year vines make me happy. Plenty of acidity balanced by lean, yet round, tannins. Savory raspberries and cherries with rhubarb and a little bay leaf. Yum! — 5 years ago

Armagh Vineyard Syrah 2013

When a Cali Syrah clocks in at 12.9%, I get a little nervous that I’m about to drink a statement and not a wine. My nervousness was unfounded. Nose is bright, with sniff-able acids, but lots of other stuff too: green olive, tiny red berries, crushed rock powder, dry-cured salami. Soft and flavorful, the interplay of low-toned savory flavors and zingy acids does a treble/bass thing on the palate. Finish is pretty long. Nice wine! — 5 years ago

“Drink a statement” - love that. But yes Syrah on the coast can get ripe in a beautiful way at that alc.

Notes of peach, honeysuckle, chalk. Smooth but with body, on sweeter side for me but still nice. Nice summer vibes for January. — 6 years ago

Bürklin Estate Riesling 2020

Dry and very classic tasting Riesling. Wet stone, lime, honeysuckle, green apple, green pear, flint, and the faintest hint of petrol. Clean with high acidity, medium alcohol, light body and a terrific compliment to food. I had it with tuna tartare and it was a knockout. Terrific value. — 2 years ago

About as good as grenache gets. Bright sour cherries followed by anise and black tea. Savory and balanced. — 4 years ago

Nice wine. Acid was a little unbalanced for me but strong typicity for Pfalz and a good partner for fish and rice. — 4 years ago

I thought is was a nice crisp citrus with good body and acidity. It actually held up well with a pork chop and sauerkraut. — 5 years ago

last bottle, still enough stuffing going on!
Mint and eucalyptus, some chocolate and still jammy fruit. Second day it was over the hill.

Russian River Valley Syrah 2008

Just an incredible 14 year old #syrah from Wind Gap that’s just screaming Crozes-Hermitage or Cornas in the glass. Cured meat, bacon fat, black olive followed by a deep well of brooding black fruit aromas. Palate is fresh with salivating acidity, aged fruit, coffee, dark chocolate and ethereal tannins on a long finish. Beautiful wine, especially for $53 for 6 bottles at WineBid (before shipping.)

Yea! We have a winner! I am a fan of BW. A HUGE fan! Drinking these “old” ladies is very refreshing. They are not old, they are full of life and leave you speechless. 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2004 are from another planet — 4 years ago
