Take a dill pickle from a good deli and bash it around in a well-made humidor then set that whole affair in front of a bowl of blackberry conserves. Et voila! Initial impressions. With air, this sheds the dill and cedar and replaces it with wintergreen. Overall a beautiful expression of a difficult and contentious variety. From last week's tasting led by Martine Saunier, this Basque Cabernet Franc has much to offer. I love Cab Franc, personally, with all of its aromatic funkiness and rustic charm. Herri Mina Irouleguy does this, along with notes of forest floor, wintergreen and pie cherries. Silky on entry, the tannins hit the sides of the mouth.
