SyrahTastingDay#3
Completely disoriented by this very original expression of the Syrah. We expect a Sunny wine with alcohol and the typical notes of Australian Shiraz outside, we have here a wine of great delicacy with rather red fruity notes, and unexpected vegetable notes of menthol and even eucalyptus, also a slight musk animal character. The winemaking is admirable and we recognize Alain Graillot's style. Superb! 🇦🇺

Delicious and Smooth — 4 years ago
Loved this for an afternoon of Greek, Portuguese and Eastern Mediterranean apps. It’s almost orange, with strawberries grounded by loads of minerals & salinity. Reminds me of the wines grown on the volcanic soil on Santorini. I gather the growing is similar, low to the ground to protect the vines from sea winds. — 5 years ago

LONGING FOR THE SOUTH
Yesterday I drank this very nice Macedonian semi-dry T'ga za Jug red wine.
The wine is made of the native grape variety Vranec. It has an intense red color, and the distinctive taste of raisins and raspberries, which make it a nice sweet treat (hence: semi-dry).
The wine is named after the poem ‘Taga za Yug’ of the Bulgarian poet Konstantin Miladinov (1830–1862), one of the Miladinov brothers, who originate from Ottoman Macedonia. Both brothers are thought to have laid the foundation of the Macedonian literary tradition.
‘Taga za Yug’ means ‘longing for the South’ (el anhelo por el Sur): "If I had an eagle's wings, I would rise and fly on them to our shores, to our own parts [...] Here are frost and snow and ashes, blizzards and harsh winds abound [...] There the sunrise warms the soul".
When it is cold outside, and fiercely raining, I can assure you that it makes you long for the sun that warms the soul. Drinking the T'ga za Jug wine in good company and nice surroundings makes for a wonderful or sometimes even better alternative.

Deep dark plum in the glass. Basically impenetrable. A touch of bricking on the thin edges. On the nose, the fruit is barely clinging on but still present. Plums and blueberries are the dominant notes here. A heavy dose of toasted cedar and green bell peppers. There’s faint floral aromas of violets along with a shock of burnt tobacco.
This is about as Napa as Napa gets. I was quite worried about how this Cab would present but it’s still alive and kicking. The end may be nigh but not quite nigh enough. Pleasant acid and well integrated tannins. Big and rich as you would expect an Oakville Cab to be but still smooth after hours of decanting. Plenty of chocolate with a dash of vanilla. The fruit on the tongue is diminished and subtle but still showing pretty well. Cherry pie and blueberry cobbler. The finish is medium length with just a touch of soft spice. This was so much fun and a great experience. Definitely mature and knocking on the door of almost gone but still good, nonetheless. — 4 years ago
