Vinarija Virtus

Vinarija Matela

Crljenak Kaštelanski Zinfandel

A great example/profile of the local crljenak (pronounced tsir-lyeh-knuck) grape done well. A solid balance of tannins and dark cherries. When it’s high quality like this, I like more that it’s Zin offspring. Highly recommend! — 5 years ago

Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy

Virtus Langhe Barbera Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Crazy how fresh this tastes for a nearly 15 year old wine. 60/40 barbera/cab. Tart dark fruit, gamey, spicey mid weight wine. Feels like this still has a way to go. I have drank a ton of Italian wine and I’m still consistently surprised by it. — 5 years ago

Položaj Dingač Plavac Mali 2010

Beautifully aged, with flavours of prune and kirsch. With 15% of alcohol content it could almost be called a fortified wine, it definitely tastes like port wine — 6 years ago

Vinarija Miloš

Plavac Mali 2011

Croatia might not be the first thing that comes up when you think about good wine, but it's definitely more than capable of producing great wines. Plavac Mali is closely related to Primitivo planted right across the Adriatic sea. Medium bodied with massive tannins even after 5 years in the bottle. Watermelon, dark fruits, herbs, and spices. Looks like it has a great ageing potential. — 9 years ago

Probus 276 Cabernet Sauvignon - Kadarka Blend

A tremendous red from the Balkans region. This one is from Serbia; from the Deurić winery. It’s called Probus 276. Let it breath for an hour and you’ll be more than happy with this fruity, silky red. — 6 years ago

Vinarija Toreta

Čara Korcula 2016

Not knowing much about Croatian wine, we asked the advice of our waiter who's knowledge clearly exceeded the requirements of the majority of his job. A beautiful crisp, clean wine with a great balance of dry vs. fruit. — 8 years ago

Open in the bottle for 30 minutes. Dark purple color. Nose contains oak, vanilla, and subtle spice. Wine reminds me of those we had in Mallorca but with a better, velvety texture. Paired perfectly with the Chateaubriand! Was so great we made a reservation for Thursday night! Medium finish. Great QPR and local recommendation by the restaurant staff! Atmosphere and scenery definitely influenced the overall experience, but that’s how it’s supposed to be!! — 5 years ago

The main reason I gave it a try. Different profile from the typical Oregon Pinot.

Pleasantly different wine for me. Rose petal nose, dark sweet plum and black cherry flavor. Age smoothed the tannins a lot, but the acid and profile is good.
Paired for dinner of Greek blood orange and tomato chicken. Like I'm in the Adriatic now!

Herbal and peppery; light bodied with plenty of acid and not insignificant tannin. Would crush it with anything containing tomato sauce or basil! — 8 years ago
