Similar to the vice versa tonight. They’re both polished and approachable wines. I would recommend a short 15 minute decanting. Hell... let it open up in your glass.

Looking at this wine you would’ve never guessed it was 12 years old.

Dark red(crimson)almost to the edge of the glass.
In your face & up front style of this...quite appealing. Black plum, blueberries, licorice. Well integrated oak, with silky tannins. Lingers on the back of the palate for a good 30 seconds. Full- bodied & delicious. Drink this in it’s prime. 2/3 great years in it.

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Enjoyed last night at Del Frisco's Fort Worth. To prevent a 300 dollar bill, we have always either opened a bottle of white and glasses of red or vice versa. We found this little guy in a 325, which probably wasn't bad considering that I think this would have been even MORE locked up from a 750. This wine did take probably 30 minutes before it was able to be enjoyed. Once it did, it was quite velvety on the front, with a good dark raspberry and classic French terroir on the nose and palate. Herbal notes like clove in the middle, all the while a very soft and red fruit backbone. The wine had a great complexity to it, and nice acidity and tannic balance that went perfectly with steak. Medium + bodied. I think my experience would be better in 2-3 years (from 375), probably 5 years from a 750. Nice little dinner wine. — 7 years ago

I could not tell if the nose had more plum than blackberry or vice versa. But I can say blueberries won out on the palate. There was some dirty rock as well and a touch of spice that lingered for a while. Overall average to me. It did have some nice touches, may have better with food. — 8 years ago

The entry is rich, thick, full bodied elegance. The tannins are M+. Fruits are; blackberries, plum, black plum, dark cherries and black raspberries. Nice spices follow, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, violets & red fresh florals, rich dark soils, leather, tobacco, graphite, crushed dry rocks, underbrush with nice round acidity and a round, lush, elegant finish. Producer notes...born and raised in Switzerland, Winemaker Jean-François Pellet is a third-generation wine grower. He earned degrees in both enology and viticulture. As part of his studies, he interned in Switzerland, Germany and the Napa Valley. After graduating, he managed vineyards and made wine in Switzerland and Spain. After his time in Europe, his experience and reputation brought him to Heitz Cellars in the Napa Valley, where he worked for four years. Pepper Bridge recruited him out of Heitz and he moved to Walla Walla to become that winery's creative force. His success at Pepper Bridge afforded him the opportunity to join the Amavi partnership. Jean-François Pellet is also a partner in Artifex, the areas very successful custom crush facility. Additionally, he is also a founding member and current vice-president of the Walla Walla Valley's sustainable agriculture organization, VINEA. Quite a resume! It was a pleasure meeting him. He is a very kind person and an extremely knowledgeable Winemaker. Thank you for all of your time & knowledge during our visit.

Walt always puts out solid pinots and this one is my vice. The sweet fruit notes on the nose and the blueberry and velvet like elixir on the palate is just a winning combination. That being said, it’s certainly a fruit forward style Pinot so if you’re looking for Burgundian traits, I’d look elsewhere. — 8 years ago
