Strut Wines

Barnett Vineyards

Rattlesnake Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Dazzling mountain fruit aromatics of pencil lead, cinnamon and cedar shavings. Very dense and tannic but sweet blackberry fruit and chocolate covered expresso beans shine through. I absolutely love these wines but I highly recommend you give them 10+ years in the bottle so they can strut. — 7 years ago

My guess is that the '13 is a monster and needs time but it seems to me both '12 and '13 Napa Cab is drinking very well young @Paul Treadway Huntington Beach Fool

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Marey-Monge Romanée-St. Vivant Pinot Noir 1993

Really really good bottle. I love 1993 Burgundy and this was no slouch. Showed very expressive fruit upon pourings, closed up a bit in glass with air. To me, this is about to really strut it's stuff but showing nicely now. — 8 years ago

Colene Clemens Vineyards

Margo Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2012

The 2012 vintage keeps delivering. Darker fruit profile with a stout structure. Needs a decant or time in the glass to strut its potential. Tasty deep dark fruits and a nice finish. — 8 years ago

Corliss Estates

Corliss Columbia Valley Red Blend 2007

2007 vintage. Just now starting to enter its drinking widow, it still needs a good decant to strut its stuff. Cassis, deep dark fruits and black tea, coupled with a solid structure and leading to a lengthy finish. Great juice! — 9 years ago

André Passat

Hermitage Syrah

Beau Carufel
9.1

1983. Reductive at first, with air it began to strut the aged Syrah beef-blood/leather/dry herb thing that I love. — 9 years ago

Foradori

Sgarzon Vigneti delle Dolomiti Teroldego 2011

From a female producer whose other teredalgo I love, this I liked but caveat this one is more refined & needs time to strut. — 9 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Last bottle in Oct was so amazing I had to get more. Equal parts here, but still coiled up and a touch hot. Give this 4+ hours decant to really strut. Dark fruit, tar, some leather and great nose. Another few years this will be a 100pt wine. — 7 years ago

Blankiet Estate

Paradise Hills Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

In a good spot right now but still needs air to strut it's stuff. Hot year and still has a slightly hot finish. — 8 years ago

Red Over Heels Merlot

Tasty wine. Worst label ever. — 8 years ago

Domenico Clerico

Ciabot Mentin Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

This beauty is starting to strut its stuff. Still some gritty tannin but man o man the aromatics this one is popping are off the chain — 9 years ago

Vouette et Sorbée

Saignée de Sorbée Extra Brut Rosé Champagne

Interesting style: vinous with an oxydative note. Dried fruit and faded flowers. Needs to warm up to almost room temp then it's got some neat stuff to strut. — 9 years ago

Bodegas Numanthia

Numanthia Toro Tempranillo

Deep dark and dried fruits. Lots of structure, even on day two. Needs time in decanter or cellar to strut its stuff. Classic Toro Tempranillo. — 9 years ago

Vigna dei Dardi Barolo Nebbiolo 1997

Finally starting to strut its stuff after a sullen, dumbed down adolescence. Ripe but not fleshy as befits vintage. Tertiary notes swelling up. Definitely rebuy. — 11 years ago

Right on. I'm now wishing that all the Aussie Shiraz I bought 6/7 years ago had been Barolo. I pour mostly Brunello and Rosso at my restaurant but after having a glass of 2008 Cigliutti Serraboella with duck confit tortellini the other day I'm obsessed with Piedmont again.

I never got drug too deep into the Ozzie stuff (although, I'd love to get more Basket Press, Tyrell's Semillon, and a few vintages of Wynn's cab). Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino, Alto-Adige, and Friuli produce some of the world's most exciting wines at bros @BobbyStuckeyMS @Leviopenswine and @DoBianchi can attest. Just gotta keep on tasting! Wine is the best! Salut!

Hubert Lamy

Derriére Chez Edouard Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2012

Took a little while to strut but once it did, the crab, and butter, and Epi baguette were a marriage. — 7 years ago

This needs plenty of time to open.

Winderlea Vineyard and Winery

Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Stout red fruits with earthy elements and a substantial structure. Tasty now, but it needs more time and/or air to strut its stuff. High potential here. — 8 years ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Double trouble. Short decant, tight and reluctant first 30 minutes with not much depth, then opened beautifully and put on weight and complexity. A front load of cassis, then bruised plum and warm wet earth. Suggest 3 hour decant to let it strut. — 8 years ago

Ronchi di Cialla

Ciallabianco Colli Orientali del Friuli-Cialla Ribolla Gialla Blend 2011

Palmer Emmitt

Fantastic skin-contact Italian white - this wine is totally my jam. Needed a bit of air to strut its stuff but then the dried stone fruit comes out in full force along with the rich oily texture and subtle oxidative earthy notes. Awesome. — 9 years ago

Domaine de la Charbonnière

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Starting to enter it's drinking window. A red-fruit dominated wine with sappy raspberry and kirsh. Needs a few hours of air to strut its stuff. — 9 years ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

I would revisit in another 10 years as this is showing a lot of tannins with some Black fruits along with cedar, smoke, mineral and green tea notes. Just needs more time to strut it's stuff! — 10 years ago
