The nose reveals; sweet vanillin, ripe, blackberries, dark cherries, floral blueberries, creamy, blackberries & black plum skin. Black licorice notes, granitic soils, light tobacco leaf, dry stone, light fresh herb notes, dry brush, soft leather with fresh red/blue and violet flowers.
The entry is ripe and juicy and evolves into big, dry, powdery tannins with deep, dark spice that sets on the palate with heat. Ripe, blackberries, dark cherries, floral blueberries, creamy, blackberries, black & plum skin. Black licorice notes, vanillin, granitic soils, light tobacco leaf, dry stone, light fresh herb notes, dry brush, soft leather with fresh red/blue and violet flowers. The acidity is like rainfall. The elegant, ripe, lush, polished, well balanced finish is delicious. Very luxurious mouthfeel.

Gorgeous, a young Sophia Loren, classic beauty with pure beam of cherry fruit mingled with dried herbs, olive, damp Earth and almost a subtle minty & licorice note. Just the right amount of juicy acidity & tannins - so cohesive & balance like a Ballerina. Need more of this type of Chianti Classico in my life. I was at the winery many years ago the day that Sophia Coppola was up for her Oscar for Lost in Translation. I always thought of this as just a brand before that, but watching the tasting room volunteers beam with pride that day reminds me that the wine truly comes from the people that produce it. I know that sounds cheesy. I saw this in the liquor store for a decade before I bought it years ago. And now that many, many years have passed since those early wine years for me, I look at this wine fondly. Which is really what wine is all about. — 7 years ago

Rioja has never been my favorite spanish region. Ribera del Duero's, and Toro's finely crafted wines have always casted a shadow on their riojan counterparts.
But Rioja has payed attention, and is picking up the pace. This wine is beautiful. Rustic chic beautiful. Not Elizabeth Taylor's kind of beauty, but surely, Sophia Loren's. — 9 years ago
The nose shows ripe, powerful; dark currants, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, poached strawberries & haunting blueberries. Sweet vanillin, black berry cola/licorice, granitic soils, black fruit tea, sweet, dark, rich soils, herbaceous notes, leathery notes, just a touch of graphite with bright, dark, red, blue, purple and violet florals.
The body is full with meaty, dark, sticky tannins. The fruits are ripe with amazing florals. Dark currants, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, poached strawberries & haunting blueberries. Sweet vanillin, black berry cola/licorice, dark spices, granitic soils, black fruit tea, sweet, dark, rich soils, herbaceous notes, leathery notes, just a touch of graphite with bright, dark, red, blue, purple and violet florals. The acidity again is perfect. The finish is balanced, elegant, beautiful, delicious, floral evolving into palate heating spice.
This one was exceptional! For around $65-$70, I would drink this over a number of similarly or more expensive Cabernets from more well know Cabernet regions.

Striking fresh ripe black currant at the start, with dryer tobacco notes from the glass, cranberry from the close up and an amazing evolution — 6 years ago

The big, burly bully across the bar. Built like an oak tree, he swaggers over, insults your shirt, hits on your girlfriend, and drinks your beer. And yet, once you get to know him a little you find that beneath his heavy, oakey mannerisms he actually has some richness and depth. He collects action figures from the 80s, loves old Sophia Loren movies, and volunteers at the local animal shelter. He's not an amazing person, but he's worth getting to know a little... — 7 years ago

1990 vintage in magnum. Veuve Cliquot Cave Privee Rose at Mark's Club Veuve Clicquot dinner - Pale peach in colour with good radiance. Constant stream of small bubbles. Lovely concentrated nose of red fruits and freshly cut figs. As the wine gradually opens in the glass, candied strawberries with freshly baked cherry tart rise to prominence. Very elegant across the palate with good weight and a long lingering finish. This is a big, sexy, voluptuous wine. There is nothing subtle here. Think Sophia Lauren in a sable bolero over Deborah Kerr in a lily white dress. This magnum was disgorged in 2011. 93/100. Drink now to 2030.
