This blend seems to be on fire in the Yarra right now.

A mini ‘86 showdown with this against a Talbot. I found both to be extremely similar with a slight edge to the Talbot. This was lighter on the palate with red fruit dominated primary notes and a mix of cherry pipe tobacco, leather, cedar and herbal spice. Drinking nice. — 7 years ago

Correcting last entry to Jackass Hill... Round three on the Zinfandel Showdown and this is the hands down winner!! Only 63 cases made of this amazing nectar. Jackass Hill Zinfandel vines were planted by the Martinellis 100 years ago and the slope is at 60 degrees...which makes it almost impossible to farm...but thank god they do! A beautiful and heavy-handed styled wine (probably influenced by Helen Turley who guided the Martinellis early on). 17%+ alcohol really packs a punch. Structured and expressive. If you can find it...get 3! Thank you Randy Burleson! — 9 years ago
Randy Burleson, owner of Bistro by the tracks, is also a Zinfandel fan, so we hit it off and decided to have a Zinfandel Showdown! This is his first pick and he really picked a doozy. (Does anyone still use that word anymore?). The Rockpile area produces some great Zins, as I have sampled in the past. This is no exception. Dark and brooding, but not jammy. Nice complexity. He wins this round. — 9 years ago
