Strega is an interesting Italian liqueur...better described below. I only sporadically enjoy it, but it's fun and tasty at each sip.
"Strega is an herbal, saffron-infused liqueur deeply tied to the secret world of witchcraft. Witches are said to convene in Benevento to perform rituals and honor Il Noce, the sacred walnut tree. (The lower part of the logo shows witches dancing with demons around Il Noce.) According to legend, Giuseppe Alberti, son of a grocer, saved a witch from falling out of a tree in the woods. In gratitude, she gave him the recipe for an elixir, which the Alberti family began selling in 1860, perhaps as a curative or restorative.
The liqueur's proprietary recipe is a mix of 70 herbs and spices which include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, Samnite mint, fennel, and saffron. Saffron is the key to Strega's signature yellow color and it shares the spotlight with mint and juniper as the most pronounced flavors within the herbal mixture." — 8 years ago

Tangerine queen. Strawberries, peaches, lilies, lavender, watermelon, tangerine. Great with the smoked pork tacos I had tonight. — 9 years ago
I saved this bottle for a number of years and it was worth the wait!! Mild tannin and subtle American oak gave way to ripe dark fruit and a silky texture. Perfect for a cool spring evening with a porterhouse and some grilled veggies. — 9 years ago
Saved for special occasion. Had with grilled paella on Super Bowl Sunday — 7 years ago
The first day this one was in a really weird place. Typical mint, but with a strand of cough syrup running through. Day 2 it blew off and was back to the red fruit, cocoa powder, mint combination I know and love. I saved one glass and let it evolve over the course of the last week. Still going strong -- cherry cola, menthol and a bit maderized. It's a shame Heitz sold this vineyard to Staglin.... — 8 years ago

When it's well above 70° in December you have to get creative with the refreshing whites. Opens with enough petrol you'll have cause for concern that it's dangerous to drink. Lime and peach work their way in while the petrol eventually mellows to paraffin wax. Coats the palate with the sweetness and consistency of a melted Fla•vor•ice, and just as you're about to cringe from drowning in the cloying sugar you're saved by a last gasp of bright acidity. — 9 years ago
Perfect for a 5 year anniversary meal inspired by our travels abroad. So thankful we saved this and didn't drink it immediately. — 9 years ago
Luscious, fruity as hell! Love this wine. — 9 years ago
1982 Monfortino. I love this wine. I last had it at the epic magnum vertical in London a few years ago with Vinous. At the end of the night I saved one bottle to put on the shelf, this wine (ok, the other reason was that my better half is of this vintage, but the wine had to be incredible too!). It has an iced tea quality, incredible complexity and grip. Legendary. — 7 years ago
Saved this gem for a few years after our trip to BC wine country. The wild blueberry I tasted at the winery has mellowed with age, but there's still lots of dark fruit along with the earthier notes. Flavours similar to a port without the sweetness. Great with rare duck breast and blueberry sauce. — 8 years ago
A bottle saved from my trip to Bordeaux. Heady and complex, full bodied. Made from vines planted in 1920. Wishing it was available in NYC. — 8 years ago
Glad we saved this one. Loved it — 8 years ago
Pretty hot and slightly disjointed. Saved by RR fruit profile and long finish. Not amazing for the price. — 9 years ago
I had saved this to share with my winemaker friend, Leah Jorgensen, as I wondered how Cab Franc-esque this would show. Plums & pomegranates, hints of orange skin. Juicy once some air got to it; smooth stepping and delightful to see Nerello Cappuccio in the limelight. Cellar potential or enjoy with good friends for a lasting memory. — 9 years ago
Was super excited to crack this open! Wine was ruby red and dark at the core. Nose had us really worried, with a ton of prunes, glue, whiskey and slightly medicinal. The surprise and what saved this was the palate. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and moderate plus body. Palate was very complex with notes of dark cherries and something similar to creme de cassis but darker, and solid acidity. Long finish of dark cherries. Drink till 2018. Would love to try some of their younger wines! — 9 years ago

Enjoyed this wine 1995 medic several bottles from my cellar. It's very deep red, goes with meat, pasta, or just enjoy it on its own during cold autumn season. Quit hight tannin. Probably the best French wines I've had. Don't know the current price, still saved couple bottles in case value increases over the years. — 7 years ago
