Sands Of Time

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

2001 vintage lovely dense plumbs, currants, violets and spice on the nose. Rich and warm, headily inviting, with the perfume jumping out of the glass capturing and demanding attention. Tightly packed mouthful as well, surprisingly medium bodied, good fruit and tannin, but closed and needing time. Good aftertaste, probably needs 3 to 5 years before opening up to its best. — 11 years ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

1995 vintage. Exceptional provenance and pedigree. Some argued she needs more time, others embraced her current state of appeal. Heavy leather, spice and texture. Big void on the fruit profile. Nonetheless enjoyable. — 11 years ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1990

Coaxing it out of the glass. Needs time to blow off typical barnyard nose, leads way to dark red fruit and really long finish — 11 years ago

Corison Winery

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Still really tight. Dark red purple. Classic cassis notes. Still plenty of time left. 2021 maybe? — 12 years ago

2013 S version. Just delicious, but lots of places to go to in time. — 11 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2004

2004 vintage. This is not a champagne I thought worthy of the hype when I last drank this about 9 months ago. Maybe I was too quick to write it off. It seems to have grown in weight, concentration and complexity in that short period of time. The apples have become more precise, there is some stone fruit coming to the fore and even hints of minerality. There's some richness on the back of the palate now that adds character to the impression of the wine. The finish is more exact and there's depth of fruit missing last time round. The length is long and fairly persistent. Although a way off outstanding, it's become very good and clearly might improve further. — 11 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

I need to find a cool dark place to hide the rest of this 2007 for a long, long time. — 13 years ago
